USCIS announced on July 31, 2020, that it has finalized the rule for increases to many form types. The most important questions are when does it go into effect and what processes are becoming more expensive?

When Are USCIS Prices Going Up?

On October 2, 2020, the new USCIS price changes are going into effect. Not all prices are going up across the board, but in general many people are going to be paying more for services.

What are the New and Old Immigration Fees?

USCIS says that it applied a weighted average increase of 20% across all benefits. That means that some fees decreased while others increased, but overall the increase was 20%. Some forms are becoming much more expensive and people should consider filing now to get the current fee rate.

What Else is Changing with USCIS’ Price Increase Rule?

There are some other changes going into effect with the new rule. According to the announcement, “the rule removes certain fee exemptions, includes new nominal fees for asylum applicants, and reduces fee waivers to help recover the costs of adjudication.”
